Here is a sample clip from my book in progress, Enjoy! (this was written a while back early in the morning its a rough sample I threw together when I was bored at like 4:30am. So there will probably be some small spelling/grammatical errors. Also I copied and pasted it here so there may be some errors due to that as well.

A voice is heard across an intercom system in the distance, “Code 13 at Factory 7 facility, Dr. Hamond, please report to the Factory 7 Facility. Security Detail Alpha, please report to the Factory 7 Facility.” The sound is quickly drowned out by the voice of a middle-aged woman much closer. “Can I help you? Sir can I help you?”

“Oh..yeah, I’m sorry. My name’s Jack, I’m from Data Recon, they sent me here to transfer some Data Discs we’ve been holding onto to one of the cryo-warehouses at this location.”

Smirking slightly she reaches under her desk and pulls out a small hand held device,” Place your left hand on the scan pad”

I almost didn’t notice the scan pad on the desk, such new tech in this place, I’m used to the barbaric retinal scanning and fingerprint analysis back at the office. Looking closer I see a small logo on the bottom right corner of the scan pad. Syncorp? I thought to myself, wow this really is new tech. The Synthetica Corporation’s scan pads have the ability to check fingerprint analysis, DNA confirmation, as well as scan your body for any toxins or other possible biochemical agents through the use of some form of nanotech, and who knows what else it does. I wonder why they need something like this here, usually only military installations or wealthy members of the private sector with secrets to hide have this stuff.

“Come on, I don’t have all day.” she snaps looking a bit agitated. I can tell without looking at the clock that it’s nearly lunch hour by the faint smell of food off in the distance.

“Sorry, I’m just a little amazed at the tech you’re using at the entry station, if you can’t tell I’m a bit of a Techie.” I let out a brief laugh and attempt to crack a half-smile. I place my hand on the scan pad and within seconds I feel a warm tingling sensation on my palm and a slight ache on my fingertips. She brings the hand-held scanner up next to my left shoulder and presses a button. The device lets out a small beep as it scans my iden chip. I always hated the day iden chips were implemented, originally they were used to help find lost pets but those of us who haven’t been brainwashed by the media knew it was only one of the beta phases and it wouldn’t be long until they were forced onto people. At first they were just surgically implanted in the back of your hand but people found ways to remove them. The early versions were small cylinder tubes embedded under the skin through a simple “injection method” and were easy to remove if you didn’t mind a little pain and a bit of backyard surgical work. That was eventually resolved when they found away to embed them directly into a nerve cluster in your hand and any attempt to remove them would cause your hands to go into form of temporary paralysis as well as send a signal to alert nearby authorities. People eventually found a way around this because you have some people who just don’t want to be tracked, and when you mix that with a form of desperation you have people cutting off their own hand just to get rid of the thing. Of course it would still alert authorities but usually the hand would be severed so quickly the chip didn’t have time to hit its fail-safe and “shut down your hands’ so-to-speak. The USDs would usually arrive just in time to find only a severed hand. It wasn’t long after this that it was decided to implant the chips somewhere that you couldn’t cut anything off to remove them. Of course it took a few trial runs but eventually they found that under the left shoulder was the best place as it was near some vital arteries and the central nervous system. Through using a microchip and some very early nanotech they were able to embed it and tie it directly into your central nervous system, any attempt to remove them now and its goodnight Lucy. Rumor has it that some people successfully invented a device using some form of EMP to disable them, but nobody has found any evidence to support this. I’ve heard they’re members of some sort of resistance that has been formed. I don’t know anything about a resistance but I wonder if it has anything to do with all the graffiti and viral vids scattered all over the central network repeating the phrase “Freedom is lost, wake up while you can!” My thoughts are interrupted by the beeping sounds from the scan pads console.

“Ok you’re all cleared. It looks like you’re a bit early.” She reaches behind and grabs a blank key card and slides it into a slot on her computer terminal. “This will only give you access to the cryo-warehoues in the east wing of the complex and the visitor lounge, any attempt to try to access any other location will alert the nearest security detail. If you get lost or need any assistance there are intercom stations located at various parts of the complex. You can find them by looking for a flashing blue light, its hard to miss”, She removes the data card and hands it to me across the counter.

“Thank you”, I say as I nod in appreciation. I begin to turn around when she stops me.

“Oh and one more thing, make sure you stay on the eastern side of the complex. We just had a situation over at Factory 7 and that boarders the eastern and western complex. Security Details are looking into it, so don’t get in there way. I would advise completing your task as quickly as possible.”

“Thanks, I think I got it. Stay on the eastern side of the complex, don’t try to use this key card for anything other than the cryo-warehouses and stay out of the way of the guys with guns. Don’t worry I’ll be in and out so fast it will be like I was never here.” I grab the data-case and head toward the door.
I make it outside and climb into one of the shuttles and swipe my key card. The shuttle powers on and displays “Please Choose Destination” across the limited HUD interface built into the shuttles windshield. I press the screen on the center console and bring up a map of the complex and look for the eastern wing. There it is, cryo-warehouse #5. I touch the building on the map and I can hear the servo-motors in the shuttle start to engage as it pulls off heading towards my selected destination. An armored security shuttle speeds past quickly and continues forward towards the back of the complex. Off in the distance I can see a small pillar of black smoke rising up from a large building. I check the map on the console’s display for building information and it reads “Factory 7, Manufacturing Facility, No other information available for this clearance level. Access Restricted.” Looking ahead I see several security vehicles along with what looks to be 2 regular shuttles and I can’t help but wonder what they manufacture in that building. The shuttle quickly turns right and stops just short of the rear entrance to a much smaller building. A tag on the side of the building says “Cryogenic Storage: Warehouse #5”.

“Well, I guess I’m here, better get started”, I say out loud to myself as I climb from the shuttle, grab the data-case and head towards the door.?
